Sobrevivendo a catástrofe ecológica cíclica, Tamandaré e seus familiares, com a responsabilidade de povoar a terra, já prevendo inundações futuras, que cobrirão grande parte do continente, abandonando o litoral foram se instalar nas montanhas, alojando na Região mais elevada, donde se pode ver o mundo ou os largos horizontes dele, e observar o despontar do sol.
Tamandaré teve vários filhos e filhas, salientando entre elas, uma menina morena, de cabelos negros, como a Graúna, de rosto redondo, dentes brancos, como marfim, com um sorriso mágico que a todos cativava.
O povoado crescia em número, dentro de uma harmonia, respeito aos antepassados, a natureza e suas forças. Os elementos da natureza eram considerados sagrados, como a Terra, o Vento, o Fogo, e a Água.
Tinha por divindade principal Rudá, o deus do amor, cuja missão é criar o amor no coração dos homens, desperta-lhes a saudade e faze-los voltar para a tribo, de suas longas e repetidas peregrinações.
O deus Rudá tinha também a seu serviço uma serpente que reconhecia as moças que se conservavam virgens, recebendo delas os presentes que lhe levavam e devorando as que haviam perdido a virgindade.
A comunidade possuía um legislador, Sumé, que lhes ensinara a viver em boa regra, como lhes ensinara a cultivar mandioca, retornando mais tarde para o litoral desaparecendo depois para o lado do mar, cujas praias deixara impressa, nas rochas mais duras, a plantado seus pés sagrados.
parte da população mudou-se para o litoral, não assimilando os ensinamentos de Tamandaré e Sumé, que invejosos prepararam um ataque a sua primitiva aldeia, Tamandaré sem força material para combater os invasores, recorre ao deus rudà, é prontamente atendido.
Rudá com seu poder divino, usando de meios naturais para servir de exemplo, quando invasores tentaram penetrar na aldeia, não conseguiram, pois a mesma estaca cercada por trincheira de paus tortos para vedar a passagem (Caparaó) e por traçados de cordas (Samambaia). Com a derrota dos descontentes, tudo voltou a normalidade.
Certa feita, num dos pontos mais elevados da serram apareceu um objeto circular e brilhante semelhante a um disco, com cores variegadas, vibrando sons harmoniosos, deixando a comunidade em êxtase.
Ao aportar no alto do monte, abriram-se as comportas, descendo figuras vultosas que a todos impressionava e procuraram logo manter contacto com os principais da localidade, sendo bem acolhidos.
Os visitantes ficaram impressionados com a beleza das mulheres, principalmente com a menina dos cabelos longos e negros, um deles procura seduzi-la.
Opondo ao assédio, para não quebrar o juramento de fidelidade aos seus princípios, embrenhou-se pelas matas, sendo perseguida por um dos visitantes, e ela já sem forças, pediu a Rudá, sua proteção, e que não fosse tomada de presa, fosse transformada em pedra para manter fiel ao seu juramento.
Rudá, atendendo ao pedido transformou-a na “Pedra Menina”.
Os perseguidores da menina, tendo ferido a hospitalidade, foram abandonados por seus companheiros em terra e se perderam nas matas: como castigo foram transformados em arvores andantes, continuando a vagar pelas matas assombrando os caçadores.
Após a festa da lua cheia de Junho, na Montanha Sagrada, quando as Icamiabas (mulheres sem marido), admitiam a presença de homens em sua nação, com a finalidade única de preservarem a sua raça, encontro este que durava três dias e três noites, findo os quais os homens eram expulsos; perdida de amor por seu companheiro a Índia Arapari evadiu-se da aldeia e foi construir seu lar.
Durante a fuga pedindo a proteção aos deuses já com as forças esgotadas, encontraram um local calmo e seguro onde edificaram sua oca. A felicidade reinante no lar veio a provocar inveja em outros membros da tribo que resolveram destruir a oca queimando-a. Após o incidente, Arapari fora acometida por uma enfermidade, vindo a falecer.
Seu amante deseperado pelo ocorrido e apaixonado pela perda da companheira, não querendo vê-la sepultada entre os seus, pediu aos deuses que a transportasse para o céu sob forma de constelação, para que ele pudesse na solidão da noite contemplá-la. Sendo atendido, Arapari foi transformada na Constelação das Três Marias.
Em homenagem o local onde eles viveram felizes foi denominado mais tarde de “CASA QUEIMADA”.
Tamandaré, o povoador da terra, teve várias filhas, morenas e belas, característica de sua raça. Entretanto, a última filha, Guaraciaba, nasceu clara, face rósea e os cabelos louros.
Duvidando da paternidade, logo após o nascimento da criança procurou afastá-la da tribo, e pediu a um fiel amigo que a levasse e abandonasse em um local ermo. Este local era habitado por um índio solitário e excluído de sua aldeia. Em suas andanças diárias, o índio ouviu um choro fraco de criança, ao deparar com um recém-nascido, acolheu-a e procurou cercá-la de todos os cuidados, porém, devido ao seu estado frágil ela veio a falecer dias depois.
Seguindo o ritual indigena, a criança foi sepultada no terreiro da maloca, e sua tumba coberta por uma laje de pedra que era regada todos os dias conforme antigo costume da tribo.
Certa feita, a pedra fendeu-se e começou a brotar em seu meio uma árvore que deu um fruto arredondado de coloração avermelhada semelhante à uma maça.
Tamandaré, perseguido pelo remorso, foi avisado em sonho que sua mulher the fora fiel e saiu a procura da filha. Ao chegar ao local, encontrou-se com o velho indio que relatou o ocorrido e levou-o ao sítio onde fora enterrada a pequena india, e medrava uma bela árvore com frutos vermelhos.
Em homenagem a filha desprezada foi dado ao local o nome de Macieira do Caparaó, nome até hoje mantido, sendo muito visitado e servindo de descanso para os turistas que escalam o Pico da Bandeira.
O grande chefe puri, da tribo do Caparaó, homem ambicioso e grande proprietário, pois suas terras chegavam até a foz do Rio Preto, com pretensões de adquirir mais terras por meios pacificos, arquitetou o casamento de sua única filha com o filho do cacique da tribo de Fária Lemos (MG), cuja região compreendia o Rio São Mateus, afluente do Carangola, até o Rio Preto.
Sabedora da artimanha de seu pai, e não estando de acordo, pois já havia se comprometido com um jovem de sua tribo, que no momento estava ausente prestando serviços, aconselha-se com o pajé, seu amigo e confidente. que aconselha-a abandonar o convívio dos seus familiares e refugiar-se perto da cachoeira.
Em seu refugio, enquanto curtia a solidão da ausência de seu amado. tecendo para o pajé da tribo uma capa para ser usada nos dias de festas. Pois este afirmara que o seu amado estaria de volta tão logo ela ouvisse o cantor de um belo pássaro de plumagem branca. Adormecida em seu trabalho. é despertada pelo grasnar da ave como fora predito pelo pajé, e fica desde então ansiosa pela chegada de seu eleito.
No silêncio, somente rompido pelo barulho das águas, ouve passos, e eis que surge na mata um jovem, que cansado se dirige para a cachoeira afim de saciar sua sede, e encontra sua companheira. Tendo chegado ao conhecimento de seu pai que os dois estavam localizados perto da cachoeira, ele vai a sua procura, encontra-os felizes. concorda com a união, tornando-os seus sucessores. O local onde os dois se encontraram e viveram por muitos anos passou a chamar-se JACUTINGA, que em guarani quer dizer Jacu – branco.
Diz a lenda que a água da cachoeira tem bons fluidos, que todos que delas utilizarem sem polui-la, voltará ao local, e serão felizes por muitos anos como foram os dois índios.
